RAMEN SUPREME
Ingredients:
2 packages of cheap Ramen Noodles;
3 large eggs;
1/2 cup fresh or frozen vegetables (peas are nice);
2 cups water.
Hardware:
1 tea kettle;
1 medium-sized saucepan;
1 spoon;
1 blunt instrument.
Process:
- Pour 2 cups of water into a tea kettle and place it on the back burner (set on "high");
- While the water heats up, gently beat the unopened ramen packets with a blunt object (a rolling pin works nice, but a fist will do) until the noodles are reduced to short segments;
- Open the ramen packages and dump the noodle fragments into a saucepan;
- Break the eggs onto the noodles, and optionally add the flavor dust that comes in the ramen packages;
- Stir this mixture in the saucepan until the water is boiling in the tea kettle;
- Pour some of the boiling water onto the egg/noodle mixture in the saucepan (Keep in mind you are not making soup here! Add only enough of this water to nearly cover the mixture), then set the kettle aside;
- Place the saucepan on the hot burner formerly occupied by the kettle;
- Stir the boiling mixture (being careful not to let it scorch to the bottom of the pan), until the water has boiled off, then switch the back burner off;
- Stir in the vegetables and place the lid on the saucepan;
- Allow to cool, and serve (unless you're cooking only for yourself, in which case just eat it out of the saucepan), then clean the pan and spoon using the rest of the hot water from the teapot.
Serves about 2 adults.
I invented this dish while attending college in 1981, then refined it to its current state over the next 15 years.
